Committees

At Canfield, it's the community that makes the difference. There are volunteer opportunities for everyone, and ways to pitch in no matter what your schedule is. Parents and relatives help out in lots of ways. The committees described below are some of the more popular ways to get involved, but are by no means the only ways.

ANNUAL GIVING

Give and our children shall receive!

Annual Giving is our most important and profitable fundraiser of the year. Donations help fund our library/librarian, teaching assistants, PE coach, arts programs, and more... Our goal is 100% participation.

BOOK FAIR

For the love of reading!

Canfield’s Barazza is transformed into the ultimate bookstore where students, parents and teachers can explore a multitude of books available for purchase. From the classics to the hottest new releases – there’s something for everyone! This popular event fosters a love of reading, helps stock class bookshelves, and raises money for Canfield. Volunteers help plan, organize, and run the fair.

COMMUNITY CIRCLE

A circle of sharing, learning, and growing!

Volunteers spend 20-30 minutes each week in a designated classroom leading discussions on topics such as friendship, responsibility, conflict resolution, and teasing. These circles help nurture the qualities and skills that make our children more confident, thoughtful, and caring people, friends, and citizens of the world.  Volunteers also attend a weekly one-hour instructional and supervisory meeting. It’s an equally amazing experience for the students AND parent/community volunteers!

CORPORATE FUNDRAISING

Partnering with the Corporate Community

If you have a passion or gift for networking and soliciting, be a part of this important committee that reaches out to any and all corporations to solicit donations to support our school.

JOG-A-THON

We run for fun AND for Canfield!

Children get family and friends to sponsor them in this fun-filled competition to run laps and raise money for Canfield. Volunteers help organize and run this fundraiser.

GREEN TEAM

Lend a thumb to beautify Canfield!

The Green Team engages in activities and events throughout the year aimed at greening, beautifying and improving our campus. It holds Beautification weekends, where parents and kids come together to clean and beautify our school, and events where families come together to plant, garden and design eco-friendly greenery and art installations. The Junior Green Team meets each month to create a Green Art Project. The Green Team: Where Art and Nature Intersect for the Good of the Earth.

LIBRARY COMMITTEE

Fostering a love of books and reading!

The Library Committee helps keep our Library vibrant, clean and filled with new books. It holds new and gently used Book Fairs and hosts a variety of events, such as Author Readings & Staged Performances in Canfield’s Shakespeare Garden.  It also maintains the Library's new Reading Garden, an outdoor space dedicated to quiet reflection.

PROSPECTIVE PARENTS

The best kept secret in the neighborhood isn’t private – it’s PUBLIC.

Help spread the word!  Friends of Canfield welcomes families in the community to visit and become acquainted with our school and the Canfield community. Together, our administration and staff, Board members, and parents help showcase all that Canfield has to offer. Volunteers help with community outreach, and help plan, organize, and run tours.

SAFETY FIRST

Keeping our kids safe!

Safety First is a program staffed by parent volunteers that allows 1st through 5th graders to be dropped off in the mornings in a designated safe zone on Canfield Ave. Parent volunteers assist with student drop-off, ensuring that they arrive safely.  Room Parents organize their classes to cover assigned days.

SHINE
